Mother’s Day in Wichita will still be slightly different in 2021, but we’re starting to see more of the familiar Mother’s Day specials this year.
This year Mothers Day is on Sunday, May 9.
We’re compiling the list of things to do for Mother’s Day near Wichita, including any brunch or meal deals we find. If we learned anything last year, it’s that you don’t need a long list of events. You can still celebrate Mom and all she’s done for you – and it doesn’t have to be super expensive.
We have some ideas based on what’s available here in the Wichita area. We finally have confirmed free admission deals for 2021 (yay!). Other ideas might include a Mothers Day brunch to go, a beautiful vase of spring tulips, and a heartfelt greeting card or note.
Many of the Mother’s Day dining deals in Wichita will probably still lean toward to-go meals that let you avoid crowds and have a delicious and low-stress meal. As with any celebrations right now, use good judgement and follow current guidelines.
This list is a work in progress that we’ll keep adding to as we find deals and changes start to unfold in the metro. If you know of a Mother’s Day special that should be included, please let us know in the comments below.

Mothers Day Gift Ideas
Fresh bouquet or live plant Many stores have special Mothers Day items available for sale now. At Aldi, you can often pick up a spring tulip bouquet for only $5. Whole Foods usually has specials on fresh flower bouquets as well. Or you can pick up a pot of blooming flowers, a cool succulent planter, an easy-to-grow houseplant, or other kinds of live plant at almost any local garden center or farmers market right now.
Tulip bulbs from Botanica It’s hard to predict how long they’ll last, but the annual Botanica tulip bulb sale is on now, every Friday morning until they sell out. Bulbs are just 15 cents. Of course, they’re not blooming so add these beauties to a basket of gardening gifts for Mom.
Sponsor a Butterfly at Botanica If you usually spend Mothers Day at Botanica, and if your mom loves to support local organizations, you could sponsor a butterfly in her name. A $10 “Spread Wings & Joy” sponsorship helps keep Botanica’s butterfly house open throughout the season and you’ll receive a certificate of recognition that you can pass along to her.
Free Trees Mom is a big deal so if you’re going with plants why not go all out for some threes. The Arbor Day Foundation offers 10 FREE trees with a six-moth membership. Memberships start at $10.
Fuel Points Dillons has a huge selection of gift cards available and – just in time for Mothers Day – you can download a coupon that will get you 4 times the fuel points on a gift card purchase. So, for example, a $50 gift card gets you 200 fuel points, which is worth 20 cents off per gallon on one fill-up. If your mom is frugal like me, the gift card is nice but the fuel points are awesome! Ha ha.
Give the Gift of Time If the mom you’re celebrating has young kids, giving her the gift of time is likely to be treasured. That could mean watching the kids for a few hours or maybe she just wants to spend the time with you! Give her the choice and make it happen.
Clean the House What a great gift this would be! Some moms wouldn’t appreciate you doing this and would consider it an affront, so proceed with caution. But you can clean MY house all day long and I would be thrilled. (Actually, let me revise that: if you live in my house, you have my wholehearted support in cleaning it. 🙂 )More Free and Cheap Things to Do this Week

These restaurant deals were valid last year. We’re tucking them over here in case we ever need them again – kind of like Mom’s cabinet full of empty margarine containers.
Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen has three Mothers Day bundles for around $35-ish that you can pre-order for pickup between now and Sunday. They also have a gift card deal: buy a $25 eGift card by May 10th and you’ll get a $5 bonus card. Chicken N Pickle is offering a Family Pack Meal to go that serves 4-6 people, OR you can reserve a table for an hour at the restaurant, as long as you have 10 or fewer people in your party. Chick N Max will have a Mothers Day family meal available for preorder that includes 2 half chickens, 6 tenders, 2 large sides, 4 pieces of cornbread, a pound of chicken salad and 4 cookies. If you pre-order, the price is $39.99. On Sunday, Mothers Day, the price goes up to $44.99 per meal (and availability may be limited). Pick up is available at any of its three locations. Drive thru is available at the Maize & 37th and West Street locations. Little Lion Cafe in the Revolutsia shopping center is reopening on Mothers Day, May 10, for contactless carry out and curbside orders. So! If Mom’s been craving ice cream and waffles, this might be a good stop to make. They’re planning to be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. McAlister’s Deli is offering a FREE dessert for Mom on Mothers Day. Adult entree purchase is required, and this deal is only available via the McAlister’s Deli app or in person; in other words, it won’t work for online ordering or for delivery. Moms can choose from fresh baked cookies, brownies, brookies, and Cinnabon cheesecake. If you’re ordering via the app, use the promo code SWEETMOM at checkout. Stroud’s has a Mothers Day dinner for 4 available for pre-order that features pan-fried chicken ($49.99) or country ham ($59.99), along with sides and cinnamon rolls. Curbside pickup only on these bundles.
