Keeper of the Plains

A symbol of Wichita, the Keeper of the Plains is a 44-foot-tall steel sculpture that stands where the Big and Little Arkansas rivers converge. Created by Native American artist Blackbear Bosin, the statue pays tribute to the region’s Indigenous heritage. This art installation has been, and will continue to be our most photographed location and a huge inspiration for local artists. The area surrounding the sculpture features educational displays about the Plains Indians and a beautiful plaza. Don’t miss the “Ring of Fire” lighting ceremony, which occurs nightly and illuminates the statue in a stunning display.
