Memorial Day is when we recognize those who have given their lives in service to our country. Wichita has a number of recognition services happening on Monday; we’ve listed the ones we know of here.
Memorial Day is also the unofficial start of summer, and we’re ready to ring in the summer with you! Pools will be opening, events will be held, and fun will be had! Scroll down to see everything we know of that’s happening on this special weekend.

Memorial Day Recognition Services
All of these ceremonies are on Monday.
Veterans Memorial Park Recognition
Wichita Veterans Memorial Park, Inc. is an all-volunteer organization that takes care of the downtown memorial and hosts recognition ceremonies throughout the year. On Monday, May 28 at 8 a.m., they’ll have a speaker from the Marine Corps who has been very involved with casualty notifications. The service will last 45 minutes to an hour, so bring a lawn chair if you’ll need to sit.
For this service, parking will be available in the lot west of the park, in a few spots on the street, or in the parking lots across the street from the park (which are normally not available to the public, but are okay to use for this event).
No public restrooms will be available.

Mulvane Cemetery Service
Mulvane Cemetery (East 119th St. S.) will hold it’s annual Memorial Day service on Monday, May 28th honoring all Veterans. It will start at 11 a.m. and last for about an hour, so you will want to bring your own chair. The American Legion and Patriot Guard will be there, as well as the Ladies Auxiliary to list each war the U.S. has been in and a list of names of local Veterans. The service will also include a rifle salute, guest speakers, and a Battlefield Cross tribute.

Resthaven Memorial Service
Reshaven Mortuary & Cemetery (11800 W. Kellogg) will have a large service at 11 a.m. on Memorial Day, May 28th. The service will be held at the center of the cemetery and will have guest speakers, a parade of flags, and other commemorative activities to honor our Veterans. Remember to bring your own lawn chair, as there will not be any there to use.

Wichita Pools Open Memorial Day
Most of the Wichita Area Splash Parks will open on Memorial Day as well! Some open sooner.
Museums & Attractions Open on Memorial Day
The Wichita Art Museum
The Wichita Art Museum is hosting a Family ArtVenture “WAM Loves Bikes” on Saturday, May 26th. Ride your bike to the Art Museum and have fun with their bike decorating activities! The event, and the museum galleries, are FREE on Saturdays. Check out their website for more information.

Old Cowtown Museum
is regular price on Saturday, but they’re hosting a really special event: It’s Steampunk Day! This should be a lot of fun! Bring your camera.
And if you haven’t gotten enough of the old west, visit the next day too because admission to Cowtown is FREE on Sundays!
Field Station: Dinosaurs Opening Weekend
Dinosaurs are coming to Derby! You won’t want to miss the grand opening of the Field Station’s new park, which will have 40 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs, live games, and shows. Check out their website, http://www.fieldstationdinosaurs.com for more information.

Blue Star Museums
The Blue Star Museums program opens on Memorial Day. Blue Star Museums offer FREE admission to more than 2000 museums for military families, including National Guard and Reserve.
The Wichita Force Football
The Force is honoring First Responder’s and Military during their home game against the Bismarck Bucks on Saturday, May 19th. Active military and first responders get tickets for just $5 on game day. Wichita Ice Center Military Discount
Looking for a spot to cool off this Memorial Day Weekend? The Wichita Ice Center will be open all weekend long, including Monday, May 28th, Memorial Day, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Wichita Ice Center offers military discounts for $5 anytime with their valid military ID. Active military and veterans get 20% off regular priced eligible items with Balance Rewards Card on Monday, May 28.

Restaurant Deals for Military
LaMar’s Donuts and Coffee #MemorialDay special is for all active or retired service men & women on Monday, May 28: One FREE donut & FREE small coffee. (Coffee can be substituted for a small fountain drink.) Some terms and conditions apply. However, not all LaMar’s locations are open on Memorial Day, so please double-check before you head out.
On Monday, May 28, all veterans, active duty military and reservists will eat for free from a select menu at Twin Peaks, with purchase of a beverage. The servers can also give you information on how to get involved with Folds of Honor, the nonprofit the restaurant partners with to fund scholarships to spouses and children of fallen service members.
Chuck E. Cheese offers a military family deal year-round. The Alpha package includes a large, 1-topping pizza, 4 drinks and 45 play points for $28.99 ($40 value); the Bravo package delivers 2 large 1-topping pizzas, 4 drinks and 100 play points for $46.99 ($69 value) to your table.
