The Starlite is saved! Whew. It’s now back up and running for the season. Per-person prices are cheaper, too. Starlite shows double- and triple-features on weekend nights in the spring and fall.

It is inside Exploration Place, and it’s a 60-foot screen with a 360-degree view and surround sound. This is the biggest dome theater in Kansas. Admission to the museum is not required.

The Orpheum is in downtown Wichita and is a unique but cool place to see shows. It opened its door on September 4th, 1922 so it’s over 100 years old. They show old movies, host comedians, concerts, and so much more.

Hutchinson’s Historic Fox Theater opened on June 8th, 1931. The Fox marquee was the first flashing display of neon in Kansas and is one of only several surviving, functioning, original marquees in the country. It is a registered historic place and is considered a local landmark. It’s a great place to visit if you haven’t been. They have concerts, movies, performances, and more in the theater.

They have movies, film festivals, concerts and more! The theater opened on June 19th, 1935. It’s a two-story art deco brick and glass building in the center of downtown Augusta. The entire ceiling is covered with individual handpainted panels. Of the estimated 5,000 theatres built in the United States prior to 1940, more than 75 percent have either been demolished or unused. We are lucky to have this theater close to Wichita.

The Tallgrass Film Festival, Wichita’s annual film festival has free and budget-friendly options. For the kiddos, check out Smallgrass, usually held in January at Exploration Place. GreenGrass focuses on environmental films that are part of the festival.
Each February, the Wichita Public Library sponsors screenings of short films nominated for an Oscar. These films are shown at the Warren, The Orpheum, and at Wichita branch library locations. Admission to the Academy Awards Short Film screenings is free.
MoviePass has gotten a lot of attention but comes with mixed reviews. It was really popular years ago but the company went bankrupt in 2020 I guess it’s coming back. How is this time different? It will now be a tiered price system. Prices will vary depending on the location, but generally, prices will be from $10 to $40 a month.

Fandango began as a discount movie pass you could buy online and redeem at select theaters. Now it’s more of an online ticketing service, but it still does frequent promotions that will save you money. And now Wichitans can benefit from those promotions because Regal and AMC reportedly accept Fandango tickets.
