Celebrate America at Old Cowtown Museum 2026

Happy 4th of July! Get ready to celebrate America like it’s 1875 with Old Cowtown Museum’s annual Independence Day Celebration.

Enjoy old-time patriotic activities at this living history museum, decorated with patriotic flags. While you’re there, you might happen upon some drama between churchgoers and saloon patrons. Back in the 1800s, disputes were often solved by gunfight, so keep your eyes open for that!

Pro Tip: Did you know that Cowtown is FREE on Sundays? Yep, find out all the details in the link. They also participate in the Sunflower Summer App, where you can get free admission this summer.

  • Performance by Daisy Longstem’s Saloon Girls
  • Mini melodrama skits by the Empire House Players
  • Old-time medicine show
  • Cowtown Vintage Base Ball Club exhibition games played by 1870s rules
  • Fun old-fashioned games, including horseshoes and sack races
  • Wagon rides
  • Historical talks and demonstrations
  • Temperance marches
  • Old West gunfights
  • Historic buildings decorated with patriotic flags and bunting
  • Experience life in 1870s Wichita during America’s anniversary celebration
  • And much more throughout the day!

This is a special Independence Day celebration that will be fun for the whole family. I love going to Cowtown during events like these because there are usually a lot of re-enactors and activities!
