This year, the Nature Center is offering some special spring break activities the kids won’t want to miss! From Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., they’ll host hands-on programs, interactive exhibits, and fun outdoor adventures. Whether your kids love wildlife, enjoy creative crafts, or want to learn more about the natural world, there will be something exciting for everyone.

Best of all, many of these activities are free or low-cost, making it an affordable and memorable way to spend spring break right here in Wichita. Don’t forget to dress for the weather and bring your sense of adventure!

The Great Plains Nature Center (GPNC) in Wichita, Kansas, is a renowned facility dedicated to educating people about the natural environment of the Great Plains region.

The center is located at 6232 E. 29th Street North, Wichita, Kansas. It sits on the fringe of Chisholm Creek Park, offering visitors easy access to both natural and constructed habitats.

Great Plains Nature Center has a FREE indoor museum and outdoor trails.

  • The Museum (FREE): This indoor nature center features interactive exhibits. Visitors can explore dioramas, interactive displays, and live animal exhibits, which often include reptiles, amphibians, and birds of prey.
  • Outdoor Trails (FREE): Surrounding the nature center, visitors can explore several trails and outdoor spaces. These areas provide opportunities for hiking, birdwatching, and enjoying the natural beauty of the region. Interpretive signs along the trails offer information about the local ecology.
