Hosting a Super Bowl Party? Tips to Stay on Budget
Tips and Ideas on how to SAVE Money at your Super Bowl Party:
Watching the Super Bowl can be an enjoyable experience without breaking the bank. Here are some tips to help you save money while still enjoying the game:
- Host a Potluck Party: Instead of shouldering the cost of all the food and drinks yourself, consider hosting a potluck party where each guest contributes a dish. This way, the financial burden is shared, and you’ll have a variety of food to enjoy.
- DIY Decorations: If you plan to decorate your space for the Super Bowl, consider making your own decorations. Get creative with team colors, print out banners or signs, and use items you already have at home to add a festive touch.
- Buy Generic Brands: When purchasing snacks, drinks, and other party essentials, opt for generic or store-brand products instead of name brands. You can often find similar quality at a lower cost.
- Take Advantage of Sales and Coupons: Keep an eye on sales and promotions leading up to the Super Bowl. Stock up on snacks, beverages, and party supplies when they are on sale, and use coupons to maximize savings.
- BYOB (Bring Your Own Beverage): If you’re hosting a party, consider making it a BYOB event. This way, guests can bring their preferred drinks, reducing the amount you need to spend on beverages.
- Shop in Bulk: Warehouse stores or bulk retailers often offer lower prices on party supplies. Consider buying in bulk for items like chips, drinks, and disposable utensils if you have the storage space.
- Opt for Homemade Snacks: Instead of buying pre-packaged snacks, consider making your own. Homemade snacks can be more cost-effective, and you have control over the ingredients.
- Stream the Game Legally: If you’re considering subscribing to a streaming service to watch the Super Bowl, explore legal and cost-effective options. Some platforms offer free trials or special promotions during major events.
- Avoid Impulse Buys: Plan your purchases in advance and stick to your budget. Avoid unnecessary impulse buys, and focus on the essentials to keep costs down.
- Use Free Apps and Websites: Instead of ordering pay-per-view, check if the game is available on free streaming platforms or apps. Many networks offer live streaming options for major events.
By implementing these tips, you can create a budget-friendly Super Bowl experience while still enjoying the excitement of the game with friends and family.

Super Bowl stuff from Sam’s Club or Costco
Any time we need super sizes of anything, I head to Sam’s Club or Costco for it because you will most often (not always) get a better price per pound. So, whether you’ve got a membership or not, remember that you can get great prices on fresh or frozen meats, frozen party-size appetizers, huge trays of cookies or other sweets, and big variety packs of snacks for close to a quarter each.
WOTC Pro Tip: Anyone can shop Costco.com, although there are a few hitches for nonmembers:
- You will pay an extra 5% surcharge, but usually, you still get a deal.
- You can not use it for “Member-Only” Savings” deals.
- If you spend less than $1,200 a year at Costco online, it’s not worth purchasing a membership (you will just pay the 5% surcharge), but if you plan on spending more than $1,200 a year online, it will save you money by purchasing a membership.
