Tips for Saving Money at the Grocery Store

Are you looking to save money at the grocery stores? A few new habits can help you save money. Saving money is easier than you think. Read our list below and make some small adjustments next time you shop. Wichita on the Cheap is here to help you save!

Grocery Store Tips to save money

These tips might not work for all families, but here are some suggestions.

  • Ignore eye-level items
    • The more expensive items are at eye level. Look up and down to save $! 
  • Pay with a grocery rewards card.
    • Like the Dillons Plus card 
  • Leave the kids at home! If you have kids. 
  • Know when to shop
    • Many experts say it’s cheaper to do your food shopping on Wednesday. That’s because they restock midweek and do markdowns. 
  • Make a meal plan with a grocery list, and stick to it.
    • Making a budget will always save you money. 
  • Buy whole fruit and cut it yourself.
    • Also, don’t buy fruit that is not in season. 
  • Shop at multiple stores for what you want a the price you want.
  • Buy the generic brands.
  • Shop what’s in season. 
  • Shop your own pantry first.
  • Don’t go to the store hungry, ha! But it’s true!
  • Freeze meats that are on sale 
  • Avoid pre-packaged items
    • It’s excellent for convenience, but they are usually more expensive. 
  • If you buy it – Use it!! 
  • If you shop at Dillon’s, download the Dillons App click the “Savings” tab and the “Weekly Ads” and shop these deals. Select the “Clip” the coupon to our cart or purchase the weekly deals to save. 
  • Make sure to sign up for a Dillons Plus Card. It’s Free and will help you save.
  • Dillon’s ads run Wednesday through Tuesday.
  • Regular Weekly Ads: These dont require a coupon but you will need your Plus Card.
  • Digital Ads: To get these deals, you need to clip the digital coupon on your app or computer. You can use the coupon up to five times in a transaction.
  • Look for the discount backey rack. There is always great deals on there. It’s usually donuts that have a few more days until they expire or bread. I just buy the bread and freeze it until you need it.
  • Look for the Reduced sign in the meat section. You can usually find some great deals on meats.
  • Look for the yellow sticker with ” Reduced” in red to score some great deals.
