The first weekend in May is Let’s Camp America! – an initiative to promote camping for first-time campers and outdoor enthusiasts. To celebrate, ALL Kansas State Parks are offering FREE park entrance on May 1, 2021.
That’s a great deal! Kansas has 29 State Parks to choose from, including the newest state park, Little Jerusalem in northwestern Kansas – an impressive attraction in the state of Kansas. The state parks comprise over 32,200 acres of land, more than 500 miles of trails, more than 280 miles of roads, and more than 130,000 surface-acres of water to explore and play on.
We also have several Kansas State Parks in the Wichita area and/or within easy driving distance. If you’ve already been to Cheney, El Dorado, and Sand Hills, venture a little farther out to Fall River or Cross Timbers, Kanopolis and Mushroom Rock, even Wilson, Milford, Eisenhower and beyond. We have a lot of great state parks for day trips from Wichita!
Are State Parks Free?
Kansas State Parks normally do charge a small ($5) fee per vehicle, but on May 1, *entrance to the Kansas state parks will be completely free.
*Free admission to the parks doesn’t include additional fees for camping or fees for special activities.
Map of Kansas State Parks
First, you need to find a park. Kansas Wildlife, Parks, & Tourism has a list of and maps for all of the state park locations here. (I’ve only been to six eight now. How many have you visited?)
