Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas has teamed up with the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks & Tourism to bring you FREE admission to Kansas State Parks on October 1, 2016. That’s a great deal! Kansas has 26 State Parks to choose from, with 32,200 acres of land, more than 500 miles of trails, more than 280 miles of roads, and more than 130,000 surface-acres of water to explore and play on.
Kansas State Parks normally do charge a small fee per vehicle, but on October 1, *entrance to the Kansas state parks will be completely free.
BCBSKS is sponsoring Healthy Fun at the State Parks Day to encourage residents to take part in outdoor recreation, which is believed to make us live longer, happier, and healthier.
Also, to help promote healthy outdoor activity to kids, BCBSKS has produced a coloring book featuring illustrations that highlight outdoor activities in eight of the Kansas State Parks and a map of all 26 state park locations. Information about the parks and educational tips are included. The coloring books will be distributed across the state at state park locations, rest stops, local tourism offices and the Kansas State Fair.
First, you need to find a park. Kansas Wildlife, Parks, & Tourism has a list of and maps for all of the state park locations here. (I’ve only been to
six eight now. How many have you visited?)
For more information about Healthy Trails Adventure Day, including how to find a state park near you and how to share your experience via the campaign’s social media channels (#HealthyAdventure), go to bcbsks.com/HealthyAdventure.
*Healthy Fun at the State Parks Day is promoting free admission to the parks. This probably does not include additional fees for camping or fees for special activities.
