This will be another fun Halloween event in Wichita for 2019. Botanica will be hosting the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular again this year.
There’s even a way you can get in FREE to this new event if you want to volunteer for some of the help they need to put on the event.
For four days this October, Botanica will be transformed into a family-friendly Halloween haunt, complete with 1000 lighted jack-o-lanterns, a haunted woodland walk, live bands, food trucks, fire pits for s’mores, hot chocolate, and an outdoor movie.
This will be a fun fall activity – break out those sweaters, boots, and scarves. The information on the Botanica website says the event will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each evening.
There will even be a Haunted Woodland Walk will be designed by the same people who put on Wicked Island, with spooky scenes like an airplane crash, troll bridge, scary school bus, puppet shack, and more. This is the first year for the haunted walk. Whether or not it’s suited for kids is up to each parents’ discretion; you may want to steer your sensitive kids in another direction, but other kids might be totally fine. You know your kids, so it’s totally up to you.
Botanica’s terrace patio will be the place to find craft beer from local breweries, food truck fare, and live music.
An outdoor movie will be projected onto a 16′ x 14′ screen during the event.
Bands scheduled to perform are:
- October 15: Harrison or Patz
- October 16: Annie Up
- October 17: Llew Brown Band
- October 18: Across the Pond
While I’m sure it won’t be as stunning as Illuminations, they will have 1000 jack-o-lanterns lighting up the gardens! (You can see pictures of last year’s event on their website or Facebook page.)
Admission to Botanica’s Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular is just $11 for adults; $8 for kids and Botanica members if you purchase in advance online at Botanica.org. (Tickets are $1 more at the door so do be sure to purchase in advance.)
A way you might be able to get FREE tickets to Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular:
Botanica does need help from volunteers to put on this event, including delivering pumpkins to carvers, helping to set up, working during the event, and taking the pumpkins to the compost pile afterwards. If you’re inclined to help out, go to this link at the Botanica website to find out about it (and follow the instructions there), but it says that the participants will receive a free ticket to Jack-O-Lantern Specatcular. So get your group involved!
