How to Save Money on Back to School Clothes

Tips on how to Save Money on Back-to-School Clothing:

  • Have a Try-On Day.
    • This is a good start to see what you have and what you might need to purchase.
  • Sell Your Used Clothes at a Consignment Store.
  • Shop at one of Wichita’s Discount Stores. Find a full list HERE.
  • Shop during Amazon Prime Day in July.
  • Don’t Miss Old Navy Sales.
    • Signup for their emails HERE because they have great back-to-school deals. If you signup, you can usually get 30% off your purchase just by signing up.
  • Hand-me-downs
    • If you have friends with older kids, let them know you would be interested in their hand-me-downs.
  • Dont get Tricked
    • Know that some retailers like JCPenney and Kohl’s inflate their prices so their sales seem more exciting.
  • When are the Best Deals
    • A general rule of thumb is your new sales typically launch on Fridays to get weekend traffic, and most clearance markdowns occur on Tuesdays when the stores are slower and they have more time spare to do the markdowns.
      • JC Penney – has their new sales on the first and third Friday of every month.
      • Old Navy – Clearance markdowns happen on Monday night so make sure to stop by on Tuesday to get the best clearance deal.
      • Target – They mark down their kid’s clothes on Monday and women’s on Tuesday, Shoes on Thursday, and Accessories on Friday.
      • TJ Maxx – New inventory comes out onto the floor on Mondays.
  • Know how different stores mark their tags
    • Old Navy – Clearance ends in a 7 or 9. Usually, if the price ends in $0.47 that is the FINAL markdown.
    • TJ Maxx– The yellow price stage shows it’s the final markdown.
    • Kohl’s – Uses a square in the upper-right corner to show it’s the final markdown.
  • Take your time shopping and spread out your shopping
    • You don’t have to get everything at once. Get enough to get you started and wait for the sales to start after the first day of school.
