Storytime in the Park is FREE at Naftzger Park in downtown Wichita. Read along with stories on the big screen and enjoy music, snacks, free books, and an activity for the kids. Admission is FREE, and this event is open to the public.
Storytime Village helps put on these storytimes with Wichita Parks & Recreation. They bring in talented storytellers to read out loud to the children. After the storytime book, they distribute books, and kids get to take a book to add to their personal library.
Storytime in the Park
Storytime in the Park is one of Wichita’s favorite Free Kids Activities. They do a great job of making it fun and engaging. My daughter is three and loves attending and meeting new friends. I love it because it’s something FREE to do in Wichita and gets me out of the house.
Storytimes in Wichita are an excellent way for children to develop vocabulary and grammar and help create a lifelong appreciation for reading. It’s also fun for younger kids to interact with their peers and participate in community activities.
Pro Tip: Walk over to Old Mill Tasty Shop after for a homemade milkshake, the best chicken salad in my option in KS, or they have a $2 scoops of ice cream
Old Mill Tasty Shop was established in 1932 and has been a fixture in Wichita with vintage decor and a traditional soda fountain, which gives it an old-fashioned feel. Its located right across the street from Naftzger Park at 604 E. Douglas.

Storytime in the Park is on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays, starting in May and ending in October at 10 am.
Fun Fact: They always have some activity that goes with the book. Pumpkin painting and cupcake decorating have been among the activities.
