Wichita Engineering Expo for Kids: Free Event in Wichita

Sharing is caring!

Looking for something educational, entertaining, and inexpensive to do with the kids? A FREE Engineering Expo will be held in Wichita with fun, hands-on activities and workshops this April.

This annual Engineering Expo is presented by the Wichita section of the Society of Women Engineers to give kids an opportunity to learn how engineering relates to the world around us.

Organizations and businesses from the community will have booths and STEM activities that showcase various fields of engineering.

You can stop in any time during the expo to visit whatever booths interest you and participate in various hands-on activities.

The activities are intended for girls and boys in grades K-8.

They will also have workshops during the event specifically for kids in 6th – 8th grade. The special middle-school workshops are free, but you do need to get a ticket when you arrive.

All participants must have a parent or guardian present during the Expo.

The 2025 Engineering Expo will be held April 5, 2025 at Century II from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

You can stop in any time and stay for as long as you like – just don’t wait until it’s almost closing time or you won’t have time to get to all the activities and booths.

“Started in 1998 as the flagship event for the Society of Women Engineers Wichita Professional Section, the FREE Engineering Expo features hands-on activities for kids in grades K-8 that expose them to how STEM relates to the world around us.

“What is STEM?” you may ask. It stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. By exposing children to STEM and giving them opportunities to explore STEM-related concepts, they are continually challenged to understand why things are the way they are. We hope to help them question things while giving them the ability to find the answers.”

  1. Why is it being limited to kids on k-8th? My son is a freshman in high school, and this is the time he chooses what career he will go into and start to study in for the next school year. Engineering is what he plans on doing. Please stop limiting these things to certain age groups.

    1. I don’t know that the event is limited to kids in k-8th, but maybe the activities will be geared toward younger kids.

That said, there may be events geared for students in his age group. You could check with this event’s sponsor, which is the Wichita section of the Society of Women Engineers. The website is: http://wichitaswe.org/

Next, I would check with his high school guidance counselor (and with the adult sponsor of any engineering clubs at his school). And then I would look at local universities like WSU to find events. Of course, if I hear about any free expos like this for older students, I’ll post them at Wichita on the Cheap.
