Shred Events We Look for Each Year
Keep an eye out for free shred days or low-cost shredding services from these in the list below. They all had shred events in previous years.
AAA Cover Your Assets had shred events at 5 locations (Lawrence, Topeka, Manhattan, E. Wichita and W. Wichita) one year. No update yet for this year. Free shredding drop-off, travel tips, home maintenance tips, vehicle maintenance checklist, and more.
AARP Free Shred Event was in May in a previous year. It was free and open to the public but you did have to register in advance. In addition to shredding, they collected donations of non-perishable food items to give to the Kansas Food Bank. To find future free shred events, keep an eye on the AARP Wichita Events listing here.
BBB Free Shred Days The Better Business Bureau has a list of BBB shredding events across the country. This year it will be on Saturday, October 8th from 9am – noon at the Coleman Parking lot.
Fidelity Bank free drive-through Community Shred Event was at the downtown Branch a few years ago, from 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot at 216 S. Market. (Enter from the S. Market entrance.) More info
INTRUST Bank Free Shred Days. They have previously held up five Wichita-area free shred events in the fall at various locations including El Dorado, Newton, Andover, and Derby. Bring documents such as invoices, medical records, tax returns and anything else that may contain sensitive information that you would like to dispose of safely and securely.
Kansas Attorney General Free Shred Events Shred events are scheduled around the state during National Consumer Protection Week in early March. To find free shredding events near you, keep an eye on this page.
The File Depot occasionally has had free shred days in the past. You could bring up to 5 banker boxes for free shredding; each additional box was only $5 each. The Wichita office moved and is now located at 1930 N. Ohio in Wichita.
Wichita Federal Credit Union usually hosts one or two free shredding days for the community. The Wichita East shred event is listed above; the west event (if there is one) is unknown (to me). In the past they’ve posted these shred events on the WFCU Facebook page here.
Wichita Shredding has hosted free shredding events in Wichita as recently as last year. At the time of this writing, I couldn’t find any published dates for 2024, but be sure to check their Facebook page, where dates were previously announced. If they do it the same way as last time, you can bring up to 5 boxes of paper to shred or up to 2 computers with hard drives to shred. The Facebook event page also says they’ll take metal, appliances, and cardboard; I’ve never heard of that at a shred event before. More info
United Way of the Plains Free Shred Event was held in April and sponsored by Wichita Shredding. Bring a maximum of 5 boxes or bags; volunteers will unload from your car so you don’t have to leave your vehicle. Sponsored by Wichita Shredding. Info here
Underground Vaults and Storage has scheduled free shred days at banks across Kansas, including Wichita, Hutchinson, Newton, McPherson, and more. Some events are for members, residents, or customers only. Here is a good place to see what they have planned.

Look for bank shredding events or check with your credit union, municipality, HOA or business and community organizations that might be hosting residents/member shred events. If you have an account with Meritrust they will shred any time you want. I usually have some to take every time I visit the bank. It is free.

I want to verify shredding date May 5, 2439 S. Seneca, morning only? I had also been told there was a citywide shred that same date in the area of 11th & Litchfield. Is that true?
