Derby is especially well-known for its incredible parks. With over 500 acres of parkland, it’s a paradise for outdoor lovers. Whether you’re chasing fresh air, a great playground, or wide-open spaces, Derby delivers.
One of the newest highlights is Decarsky Park, located off South Rock Road. It features four softball/youth baseball diamonds and a spacious dog park where your furry friend can roam. Plans include even more diamonds and amenities, so it’s only improving.
Over on the east side of town, High Park is the heart of Derby. It’s home to the popular Smoke on the Plains BBQ and Music Fest, the city’s July 4 fireworks, and countless sports tournaments. With a fishing pond, amphitheater, two playgrounds, volleyball courts, and indoor and outdoor shelters, there’s something for everyone.
In the center of town, Madison Avenue Central Park offers a more community-focused vibe. It features a splash pad, an inclusive playground, walking paths, and event spaces. From April through October, you can catch the Kansas Grown Farmers Market here, along with events like Third Thursday, Christmas in the Park, and the annual Tree Lighting celebration.
Warren Riverview Park on the west side is your go-to if you’re craving adventure. Sitting along the Arkansas River, it features a 15-foot ropes course, kayak and canoe access, scenic river views, and a fire pit area. The Lodge meeting space even overlooks the water—ideal for group gatherings or a quiet moment with nature.
