Sharing is caring!
If you’ve been planning to adopt a pet, September 7 or 8 might be your day. The Kansas Humane Society in Wichita is having an Clear the Shelters adoption event. What that means is cheaper pet adoptions!
Clear the Shelters adoption event
The Kansas Humane Society is partnering with KSN on this event, which lowers the adoption fee for one day only on dogs and kittens. (The deal excludes puppies and High Profile Pets.) Adult cat adoptions will remain Pick-Your-Price.
Often, adoption specials focus on a particular category, like older pets, or black pets, or only on cats, etc., o this is a really good deal in that it only excludes puppies and high-profile pets. Of course, it’s first-come, first-served, so get there early to find your next fur-baby.

Spaying or neutering is included, as well as microchips and age-appropriate vaccinations. That is an amazing deal that saves you potentially hundreds of dollars on up-front vet fees.
Exceptions and Stipulations
Now, as you can imagine it will be very busy at KHS that day so don’t plan on any dog-to-dog introductions. And some exceptions will apply as noted above.
You must be 18 or older with valid ID in order to adopt a pet. Arrive early and be ready to wait in a long line. You also won’t be able to put a hold on any animals that day.
Things to Think About First
Before you adopt a pet, make sure that you’re ready for the responsibility and the commitment. (And make sure that where you live allows pets. Even some pet-friendly apartments have a weight limit or other restrictions, and most do charge a pet deposit.)
Pets require food, water, toys or equipment, space to play/live/sleep, and veterinary care – all which add an additional expense to the family budget. They also require time and care from you in varying degrees, depending on the type of pet you choose, like bathing and grooming, walking, playing, training, giving medicine, cleaning up after them, and more.
You also have to find someone to take care of your pet whenever you go out of town.
But if you’re prepared for the extra expense and the time and care, then go give a sweet animal its “forever home” on Saturday.
The Kansas Humane Society is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The shelter is located at 3313 N. Hillside in Wichita, Kansas.
