When we’re paying pennies for school supplies in an effort to get ready for back to school, it only makes sense to try to save on the bigger-ticket items too. Wichita has a number of great consignment sales that will help you do just that. See the list of 2024 Fall consignment sales in Wichita below.
Most consignment sales offer pre-sale shopping passes to consignors or volunteers for shopping when the selection is best. The last day of the sale is often a half-price day, when many items will be marked down to get them sold quickly. (Not all items will be marked down on the last day of the sale; be sure to find out how you’ll recognize the discounted items at each sale.)
Some of the “big-ticket” items you can find at children’s consignment sales include:
- Shoes (remember to look for PE shoes too), snow or rain boots
- Clothing/school uniforms
- Backpacks
- Coats and outerwear

Mulberry Bush Consignment (MBC) Summer Sale
This year, Mulberry Bush Consignment will have its summer/back-to-school sale July 26-29, 2024 with free admission and over 39,000 items to choose from! It’s a HUGE sale. See the whole schedule at their Facebook page; as usual they will have presale passes available to volunteers and consignors, among others, and the public sale will be Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Rhea Lana Back to School Consignment Event

Rhea Lana will host its famous back-to-school consignment shopping bash August 11-15, 2024, in Wichita. There are a lot of pre-sale opportunities, especially if you are one of the parents consigning your gently-used children’s items. See their website about those. But the public sale will begin Sunday, August 11 and continue through half-price day on Thursday, August 15, 2024. The sale is at Century II Exhibition Hall, 225 W. Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67202. How about a shout out to all the local children’s resale shop that are open year round for Back To School? They work hard to provide a convenience for busy parents, but have much higher expenses to pay the rent, utilities, employ associates, etc. I love consignment sales too but would love for local resale shops to get some love too. All but one is a locally (woman) owned small business.
Consider them shouted. I would love to have a list of all the local children’s consignment stores and resale shops here on the blog. That’s a great idea. I just need to find the time (or the money to hire someone) to do it. I don’t know if you know it, but Wichita on the Cheap is a one-woman operation. (You can see more about the site and why I started it here: http://wichitaonthecheap.com/about . Doing the best for readers AND local businesses is what it’s all about.)
