There’s a new theater in town! The old Northrock Movie Theater in Wichita has been reopened by AMC Theatres, and it looks like it will be a boon for locals who want to see movies on the cheap!
The new movie theater opens Friday, March 30 at 3151 Penstemon Street in Wichita as the AMC Northrock 14. From reports I’ve read, it’s pretty snazzy. But I haven’t seen it myself, so I’m looking forward to hearing from Wichita-on-the-Cheapers what you think of it!
What I do have, however, is some info on its rewards program, ticket prices, discounts, and a few of the theater’s features (which I hope to be updating soon as I learn more).
AMC Theatres Stubs Loyalty Program
Like Regal’s Crown Club, the AMC rewards program allows you to earn points toward discounts on admission or concessions. This program has two levels: AMC Stubs Insider, which is free, and AMC Stubs Premiere, which has a small annual fee.
Here is an article about the AMC loyalty program at our partner site, Living on the Cheap, by Bryan Chavez. Reprinted here by permission:
AMC Stubs Insider
Frugal film fanatics will love AMC Stubs. A basic membership is FREE. AMC Stubs Insider offers lots of rewards and perks, including a complimentary popcorn refill every visit, save up to $2 on tickets every Tuesday and enjoy a $5 reward every time you reach 5,000 points.
Earn 20 points for every $1 spent at the box office and concession stand. If you do the math, you’d have to spend $250 to earn a $5 reward.
Plus, get a birthday gift of a FREE large popcorn, waived online fees for four or more tickets, exclusive offers and invitations to special screenings.
AMC Stubs Premiere
If you’re looking for blockbuster benefits, they also offer AMC Stubs Premiere with bigger rewards and more perks. There is an annual fee of $15. (The occasionally offers discounts on the membership fee.)
The benefits include a complimentary popcorn refill every visit, save up to $5 tickets every Tuesday and enjoy a $5 reward every time you reach 5,000 points.
Earn 100 points for every $1 spent at the box office and concession stand. You only need to spend $50 to earn a $5 reward — 5 times faster than the basic program.
Plus, get a birthday gift of a FREE large popcorn and large soft drink, waived online ticket fees, exclusive members-only offers and invitations to special screenings.

AMC Theatre ticket prices
Even without the Stubs loyalty program, it looks like the Northrock 14 will be easy on the pocketbook. Ticket prices I’m seeing on its website right now are lower than Regal’s Warren theaters, with matinee prices at $4.49 for all ages, and evening prices at $8.99 for adults, $5.99 for kids 2-12!
Those are the prices for the regular theaters; AMC does have an upgraded theater, the Dolby Cinema Theater (like the Warren’s Director’s Lounge), with extra features and a higher price tag. It appears that the evening shows will be $12.99 for adults and $9.99 for kids, based on looking at the ticket prices for Ready Player One tonight.
Northrock 14 ticket discounts
In addition to lower ticket prices every day, the AMC theater also has some discounts!
There are student, military, and senior discounts. According to the website, student discounts begin at 4 p.m., senior discounts begin at noon. And you do need to show an ID.
Plus, during the summer, AMC movie theaters in other cities usually have inexpensive kids summer movies. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out on that for you.
Ticket Tuesdays are another AMC discount offering available to Stubs members, and I’m looking forward to finding out if it’s available in Wichita. If it is, you’ll be able to get a movie ticket, popcorn, and drink for $10. Wichitawesome.
I’ve read that the new AMC Theater in Wichita accepts Movie Pass. (I’ve heard of Movie Pass from readers, but I haven’t tried it yet. Have you?) As always with passes like this, there will be some restrictions and you’ll need to read all the fine print before you decide. I’m not ready to make the leap just yet.
AMC also accepts tickets purchased through Fandango (affiliate link), which frequently offers discounts.
Woohoo, cheap movies! And free refills on soda.
Features of the new Northrock 14
So apparently the new theater has recliners. And in the “fancy” Dolby Cinema theater, those recliners rumble with the action happening on screen. Wowza. I honestly can’t wait to try it out. I’ve always thought theaters should have that!
Concessions will be a bit different too. You get your soda from one of those self-service machines that gives you flavor add-ins. And as I mentioned above, I’ve heard that refills will be free.
There’s one other thing I should mention: It looks like at the new AMC theater, if you want to purchase your tickets online you need to choose a seat. This seems like it will save time and whispered discussion in the aisle — I tentatively like the Reserved Seating idea. 🙂 It’s just a very different experience for a movie theater.
Let me know what you think of the new Northrock 14 theater! Will this change your movie-going habits?

I recently purchased MoviePass because it was on sale for $7.95/mo. (It is back to the regular 9.95 price, which is still a good deal) I haven’t typically been a big movie watcher, but since having it, I’ve gone several times. Going to the movies just once in a month covers the monthly fee, or close to it, so anything more than that is basically like going to the movies for free. You check in at the theatre with their app, choose the movie you want to see and then use your MoviePass card to pay at the register. (They send a MoviePass Mastercard to you, which takes around a week after signing up.) I’ve had no trouble using it, and you can still enter your receipts into your Regal Crown Club account if you have one to earn points. It’s not valid for 3D or IMAX movies, and although I’ve not tried Director’s Suite, I know someone who has and my understanding is you just have to pay the difference between the regular movie ticket price and the DS price, which I think is around $4. Hope this info helps!
Oh, yes, definitely – it helps a ton. This is good information to have! Thank you so much, Crista!
