The Wichita-Derby Barn and Contra Dance club hosts regular contra dancing events, with lessons for beginners who arrive early. This is a family-friendly dance for everyone from age 8 to 88, and you don’t need to bring a partner. They have live music and callers, and you get a serious workout!
Contra dancing is easier to pick up with a quick lesson than square dancing, so beginners are more than welcome. Lessons for beginners will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the dance starts at 7 p.m.
Kids 16 and younger can dance FREE, and it’s also free for spectators if you just want to go and see what it’s all about. The cost is only $7 for adults, $5 for students over the age of 16 and for seniors.
The April 1 contra dance will be held in the Oaklawn Activity Center cafeteria at 4904 S. Clifton, which is south of the Kwik Shop on 47th Street South, just west of K-15.
Be sure to wear comfortable, casual clothing and go prepared to have a good time. RSVP on their April Contra Dance event page so they know how many people to expect!
