Sedgwick County Zoo Back to School Bash

You could call this a “Teacher Preparedness Event,” but the Zoo calls it its annual Back-to-School Bash—and it’s when they let everyone in for just $3! Unfortunately, the Sedgwick County Zoo is not hosting this event anymore.

You’ll get zoo admission for only $3 on Saturday, August 5, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

As usual, Zoo members can get in free with their membership card and a photo ID.

Tickets are on sale beginning July 1!

The event is presented in cooperation with KAKE Channel 10 and Dillons grocery stores.

While it isn’t required to get discounted zoo admission, it’s usually encouraged to bring new school supplies to donate to the KAKE School Supply Landslide. I haven’t heard yet whether the school supply donation drive is going on again this year.

(Either way, you’ll have plenty of great school supplies to donate when you’re keeping an eye on the Back to School sales here at Wichita on the Cheap.)

The Sedgwick County Zoo Back to School Bash is such a huge event that in past years the parking lot would overflow. It goes without saying, then, that you should get your tickets as soon as possible and show up prepared for a busy day!

Bring some water, wear comfortable shoes (and sunscreen, speaking of things to wear), and maybe think ahead for potty breaks. (Little kids always wait until the last minute to bring it up, don’t they? And that’s just what you need when you’re at the gorilla exhibit, right? Your kid is doing the pee-pee dance as you and he make your way through the crowd, you’re saying “Excuse me, pardon me” as politely as possible and sending up silent prayers for no accidents. When you finally reach the restroom you see that the line is twenty people deep. 🙂 Amiright???

This would be a great time to checkout the NEW Safari Express Train built locally by Chance Rides. The train will you around the Zoo on a 1.3-mile journey, offering never-before-seen views from behind the scenes.

Zoo guests can ride the Safari Express with an Attraction Ticket of $4 for Zoo Members or $5 for nonmembers.

To avoid that all-too-familiar scenario, consult this zoo map and make a plan for potty breaks.)

More than one person has told me that ours is one of the best zoos in the country. To get in for only $3 is a great deal!
