Have you heard of the PBS Kids Play area in WIchita? This is a local gem and its FREE to visit. It’s the perfect place to take kids if you are looking for Kid’s Activities in Wichita.
The PBS Education Center is located inside the PBS Channel 8 building. Its a children’s play area full of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) based learning opportunities for children ages 2-10. They are open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. with some exceptions. We suggest checking their website before heading over.
The Education Center is full of hands-on, interactive stations where children can be creative, improve their
social & emotional skills, and build critical thinking.
What to Expect at the PBS Children’s Play Area:
- Reading & Media Center – Kids can take home a FREE book (from the yellow shelf) each time they visit
- Makerspace – Practice fine motor skills by making a craft
- Video Creation (green screen) – Explore storytelling and technology
- Weather station – Monitor the weather and make your own weather report
- Construction corner – Role play with tools and building toys
- Little Tigers den – Suitable for the younger kids, discover music, build and imagine
- Engineering station – Learn building design with blocks and magna tiles
- Multiple play food role-playing areas – Includes a market and sit-down diner
- Learn about coding, search for oil in Kansas, use a microscope, and more!
Along with the play areas, they offer both English and Spanish story times during the dates and times on their website. If you can’t participate in person, though, be sure to check out their website. They have FREE downloads of the books they read, vocabulary sheets in both languages, and craft templates with instructions.
