As we head into the holiday season, we’ll be keeping an eye out for the best prices on turkey in the Wichita metro area!
Turkey prices nationally are expected to be higher this year, according to a USDA report, but we’ve already seen grocery stores promising deals on their Thanksgiving grocery prices. That’s because they’ll typically offer turkeys as a loss leader to get you into their store during the busy holiday baking and cooking season.
For example, both Walmart and Aldi are advertising the very family- and budget-friendly price of $40 for a full Thanksgiving meal for 10 people.
Pro Tip: November is typically a great time to stock up on baking supplies too. Keep your eye on the sale ads and if you have room in the budget, buy while prices are low!
Wichita Turkey Prices
Below, we listed a sampling of turkey prices we’ve seen advertised so far in the Wichita area. Here are some things you should note:
- Not all of these deals will stay consistent throughout the month, but this list of turkey prices should give you a good starting place when you’re doing your Turkey-Day shopping.
- Most of the deals are going to be for frozen turkeys. That means you have to buy ahead; it takes an average of 3 days to defrost just a 12-pound bird.
- Some offers require an additional dollar-amount purchase. (Dillons usually does that at least once during the month.)
Aldis: We’ve seen reports of Aldi frozen turkeys at 77 cents a pound for the Jennie-O brand and 97 cents a pound for a frozen Butterball turkey.
Dillons: Right now, Dillons has frozen Butterball turkeys for 99 cents per pound. What we expect to see: Dillons usually has a weekly special closer to Thanksgiving with a very good per-pound price on the store-brand turkey, as long as you also make an additional $25 purchase (which is easy to do).
Walmart: At the moment, we’re seeing frozen Butterball turkeys for 99 cents per pound. The Jennie-O brand, frozen, is at 84 cents per pound.
Target: Its store brand frozen turkey, Good & Gather, is currently at 79 cents per pound and we see the Butterball frozen turkey at Target for 99 cents per pound. (Same price as Dillons.)
Whole Foods: The store’s 365 Brand whole young frozen turkey is $1.49 per pound for Prime members ($2.49/lb without Prime). The same brand’s organic counterpart is $2.99 per pound for Prime members ($3.49/lb without Prime).
Trader Joe’s: Only offering fresh turkeys, prices start at $2.49 per pound for the All Natural Antibiotic Free Brined Fresh Young Turkeys and go up to $3.99 per pound for the organic version. The Trader Joe’s turkeys will be available in store starting November 13.

Walmart’s Thanksgiving for Under $4 per Person
This year, Walmart is helping you celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with a deal that promises a full feast for under $4 per person. Below, you’ll see what they included – and what they did not.
We do agree this is a very good deal!

Kroger Thanksgiving Sales
Picking up some of the slack on Walmart and Aldi’s Thanksgiving deals (which are really good), Kroger will have eggs, cheese, and butter at *really* good prices starting Nov. 5. Don’t miss the chuck roast for $5.99/lb either!
