On Tuesday, Facebook, Instagram, and Threads experienced widespread outages, leaving many users unable to log in. Downdetector.com recorded over 560,000 reports of Facebook issues, with the problem emerging around 10 a.m. Eastern Time. Meta, the parent company of Facebook, acknowledged the situation via Andy Stone, Head of Communications, on X (formerly Twitter), stating they are actively addressing the problem.
Similar disruptions affected Meta’s other platforms, Threads and Instagram, around the same time, although not as extensively reported. Users accessing Facebook on iOS devices encountered a notification prompting them to log in again, but the process failed even after entering their passwords. Instagram users faced issues refreshing their feeds, while Threads users experienced loading errors.
Despite around 300 reported problems with WhatsApp, some users could still send messages as usual. WhatsApp, widely used across Asia and beyond, remains operational for at least some users. Third-party apps relying on Facebook for login also experienced difficulties.
Meta has yet to comment further on the situation. The duration and scope of the outage remain uncertain. Meta’s support website acknowledges “major disruptions” affecting core services like the Meta admin center and WhatsApp business API, although the status of Facebook Login is labeled as “unknown.”
