This is one Earth Day Freebie you get to give. Get your hands dirty on the Saturday after Earth Day by helping to keep our river clean. (Actually, you’ll wear gloves, so no manicures need be harmed by this activity!)
On Saturday, April 22, 2017 join hundreds of other volunteers for the 16th Annual Arkansas River Trash Roundup and spend the morning doing some spring cleaning on our river.
You’ll be collecting debris in and along the banks of the river, so wear your grubby shoes. Gloves and trash bags will be provided, and each volunteer will get to take part in the post-cleanup cookout.
This kind of activity can be great for individuals, couples, families with tweens and teens, or fellowship groups. Working together is one of the best “bonding” experiences, and everyone will get to spend some time outside.
Here’s information about the river cleanup from the City of Wichita:
Check-in is at 8 a.m. at 151 N. Waco. There you can pick up trash bags and gloves. Wear sturdy shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Sunscreen, a hat and bug spray are a good idea too. After you fill a few bags, enjoy a post-cleanup cookout with the City of Wichita, Cargill, Spirit AeroSystems and Ducks Unlimited back at check-in.
