Sharing is caring!
The holiday season is around the corner, and the United States Postal Service’s special program called Operation Santa makes it fun and easy for kids to send a letter to Santa and for volunteers to adopt letters and help make someone’s Christmas extra bright. Here’s how families in Wichita (and beyond) can participate, share the tradition with our daughters, and make it part of the holiday magic.

How to Send a Letter to Santa
- Grab your paper, pen, or a downloadable template from the Operation Santa website.
- Address the envelope like this: Santa
123 Elf Road
North Pole, 88888 - In the upper-left corner, include your full name, return address, and apartment number (if applicable)
- Stick a First-Class stamp in the upper-right corner.
- In the letter:
- Write clearly and include your full name and address again.
- List gift wishes in order of preference, be specific.
- Avoid asking for overly expensive items.
- If you have multiple letters for siblings or a classroom, you can send them together (for families) or send each letter individually (for classrooms) with proper postage.
- Mail your letter via the Postal Service so it arrives in time for Santa’s reading crew.
Why It’s Worth It for Wichita Families
- It’s a low-cost, high-magic activity, no big cost, just a stamp and a bit of time.
- This has become one of our favorite family traditions. My daughters love being part of the magic of writing to Santa with both purpose and fun.
- It brings the magic of community and kindness: some letters are adopted by volunteers who respond or help fulfill wishes via the program.
