If you’ve been following the saga of Wichita’s one-and-only drive-in movie theater, you might be excited to know that the Starlite Drive-In is scheduled to open for the season on March 1, 2019!
This will be a soft launch, and they don’t expect a big crowd because it’s supposed to be chilly this weekend. But this early opening will give the new staff an opportunity to put their training into practice and work out any possible kinks before the start of spring break.
Starlite’s manager Blake Smith says he’s pretty excited about the new projector and sound system they have for the drive in. He thinks it will make for even better viewing and listening than what they had previously!
Donations are still being accepted to pay back the loan on the projectors. From what I understand watching this story unfold since last October, strong community support is a large part of what saved this theater. (That and apparently a lot of others working hard behind the scenes!)
Tickets for the drive-in will be $7 per person for ages 12 and up; and $3 for ages 3-11; ages 2 and under are free. That’s $2 cheaper per adult than it was last season!
The concession stand will have the basics like soda and popcorn, but Smith says the grill won’t be up and running yet. You’ll probably want to eat dinner first.
The box office will open at 6:30 p.m. The drive-in has two screens, with a double-feature showing on each screen. Here are the movies that will be playing on the two screens.
How to Train your Dragon 7:30 p.m.
Spider-man Spiderverse 9:30 p.m.
Green Book 7:35 p.m.
The Upside 9:45 p.m.
I’m excited for the Starlite Drive-In season to begin! How about you?
You know what else happens today? Tanganyika discounted season passes go on sale!
