Happy 20th  birthday to Old Town Wichita! To celebrate its second decade, the Old Town district in Wichita will be having a week-long birthday bash starting today, Monday, September 19, 2011.

You’ll find shopping and dining specials, along with live entertainment in the streets, every day from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 5-7 p.m. in Old Town through Friday.

Added to the festivities will be 3 bicycle tours departing from the Farm & Art Market plaza at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 20 – Architectural Bike Cruise with Jennifer Rygg of Spagenberg Phillips Tice
  • Wednesday, Sept. 21 – Bike and Snap photo tour with Ty Nighswonger
  • Thursday, Sept. 22 – Art on Wheels with Ann Resnik
Eat Dessert First:

Then on Friday, September 23, enjoy an “all-ages cake and ice cream chow down” from 4-7 p.m. in the Farm & Art Market Plaza at 1st and Mosley. Be one of the first 500 to arrive if you want free ice cream and cake! Live entertainment will be provided by Razz, and Mayor Carl Brewer will be there too.

Later, bring your picnic dinner to Old Town Square Plaza at 2nd and Mead and enjoy free live music by the Tom Page Trio and Crowson & Hardin. If you didn’t pack a picnic, you may be able to buy one when you get there. (A limited number will be available.) Alcohol will be served at this event, so bring your photo ID.

Parking will be available in the parking garage near the Square.

On Saturday, September 24, the Wagonmasters Old Town Chili Cook-Off will be held downtown. Public tasting starts at high noon for $5 per person.

Saturday evening from 8-11 p.m., Old Town Square will rock out again with a dance and live entertainment from Monterrey Jack, Jenny Wood & the Watchers, and Scroat Belly. Again, bring your ID if you plan to purchase alcohol.

On Sunday, September 25, close out your weekend with the Wichita Blues Society Blues Crawl from 4-11 p.m. at venues throughout Old Town.
