Sharing is caring!
Open Streets ICT is back this spring in the WSU and Shocker neighborhood, and it’s one of those events I always look forward to. They shut down nearly two miles of 17th Street just south of Wichita State, turning it into a completely car-free space where families can walk, bike, scooter, and just enjoy being outside together. It’s free, which I love, but it’s also one of the best ways to experience Wichita in a totally different way, with no traffic, no rush, just community.
The street comes alive with food trucks, music, local businesses, and plenty of space for kids to run around and actually enjoy it. I always end up staying longer than I planned because there’s so much to see along the route from Oliver to Volusia. It’s happening April 19, 2026, and if you’ve never been, this is definitely the year to check it out

Open Streets ICT is really all about bringing the community together in a way you don’t get every day. It’s not just an event, it’s a chance for local businesses, vendors, and neighbors to connect, support each other, and create something fun and welcoming for everyone. Whether you’re walking the route, stopping at booths, or even jumping in as a vendor or volunteer, it’s one of those feel-good days that reminds you why Wichita is such a great place to live. Don’t miss it and mark your calendar for April 19, 2026, and plan to be part of it.
