Usually, Free Comic Book Day in Wichita (and across the country) is the first Saturday in May every year, when participating comic shops just give away free comic books. Yes, really! But this year, in 2020, it’s Free Comic Book Summer!

Free Comic Book Day is a national event, which celebrates the thousands of independent comic book specialty shops in North America and this original American art form.

Wichita has several comic stores participating.

Read on to see the participating Wichita stores and for information.

PARENT TIP:
Comics aren’t just for kids. In fact, if you are bringing the kids along to any of Wichita’s Free Comic Book Day events, you might want to ask the store staff to point you to the kid-friendly selections. School Library Journal has a whole section on Good Comics for Kids that can also serve as a helpful guide. (Thanks to Madison on the Cheap for this good tip!)

From Now to September 9, comic shops will receive five to six FREE Comic Book Day titles in their weekly shipment. Release of the titles will vary by shop, as retailers are encouraged to release the books as necessary for their unique circumstances.

One retailer might release one title a day, while another may make all of that week’s titles available at once. The change is designed to be flexible and customizable, so retailers and fans can get the most out the event. As a result, double-check the event details of your area’s participating shops.
