Wings of the Wind announced on Facebook that’s there’s going to be a kite-flying party at Eastview Park on May 3, 2015.
Bring your own kite or purchase one when you’re there. And if you’ve never flown a kite before, this is the perfect time to learn.
If you are a seasoned kite enthusiast, they’d love for you to be there too! They’re looking for stunt kite flyers and folks with large or unusual kites to “decorate the sky with coolness and color.”
And since the sky will be full of color while we’re all out there with our kites, this could be a fun event for photographers or videographers too.
The kite-flying event will be in the afternoon, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 3. Eastview Park is on 13th Street between Woodlawn and Rock Road, just in front of Coleman Middle School.
The event itself is free, but if you don’t already have a kite you can buy one from my friends Mark and Susan, who own Wings of the Wind and will have a booth set up during the event. When we bought a kite from them, we asked for one that was pretty much foolproof, and they steered us in the right direction. Here’s a short video on Facebook of Mark teaching us how to fly it at the Derby Kite Festival one year. (I’m not a videographer, as you can tell! Apologies for the jerky camera movement and the wind noise.)
If you’d like to look at kites before the event, the Wings of the Wind store is located at 5420 E. Central. Say hi from me when you stop in!
