Newman University is offering a summer STEM program for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. The deadline to apply is June 7, 2021. Participants can receive 1 college credit, and lunch is included in the very affordable program fee. See below for all the information they submitted to us!

The Investigative Summer STEM Program (ISSP) is designed to enhance enthusiasm and interest of high school sophomores, juniors and seniors in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields, and motivate them through exploration and testing of ideas for STEM careers. This year students will be working on DNA CRISPR gene editing, synthesis of acetaminophen, alternative energy design, forensic analysis, microbiology investigations, an much much more! The program is offered in response to a national concern about the diminishing number of young people pursuing careers in the STEM fields. About The Program
- Earn one hour of college credit.
- Lunch will be provided daily.
- Spend 5 days performing hands-on research in small groups led by highly qualified NU faculty. This year students will be working on DNA CRISPR gene editing, synthesis of acetaminophen, alternative energy design, forensic analysis, microbiology investigations, an much much more!
- Students living outside of Sedgwick County can stay on NU’s campus in the residence halls.
- Engage with guest speakers from a variety of STEM-related fields to discuss the career opportunities possible with a STEM education.
- COVID-19 safety measures and procedures will be in place. (More Info)
How Much Does It Cost?
The Investigative Summer STEM Program (ISSP) is offered at an unbelievable low rate of $125.00. That’s only $25 per day! This includes one College Credit Hour and one Meal Per Day.
Students living outside of Sedgwick county have the option to stay overnight in the residence halls for a cost of $20 per night. This cost includes dinner.
Who Can Attend?
The Investigative Summer STEM Program (ISSP) is only available to High School students who will be incoming Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors in the Fall of 2021. Freshmen with strong applications will be considered.
ISSP Scholarships Available
ISSP Scholarship Deadline: June 7, 2021
ISSP scholarships are available for applicants who need extra assistance to pay the program fee for ISSP. We are grateful for the ISSP scholarship donors who help make these scholarships available to our applicants! Please note that the ISSP scholarships are due by June 7 so apply now! If you apply after the deadline, there is a chance that all funds will have been allocated already.
