Gander RV & Outdoors in the Crossgate District (near Splash Aqua Park) will officially open its doors in Wichita this Labor Day weekend.
Gander Outdoors is owned by Camping World, a national brand that specializes in recreational vehicles, parts, supplies, accessories and outdoor gear.
Gander RV & Outdoors grand opening celebration will begin at 8 a.m. Thursday morning and continue until Labor Day Monday.
The event will have food, musical entertainment, family activities, prizes, and giveaways, according to the press release.
On Saturday, August 31 at 1 p.m. is the big flag raising in honor of first responders, active-duty military, and veterans. This will be a massive 40′ by 80′ American flag.
“The 40×80’ flag, which covers 3,200 square feet, flies on a 130’ pole and was installed as part of a project that Camping World Holdings began in February of 2014 to show their ongoing appreciation of America and the great people that sacrifice so much for our well-being.”
“Marcus Lemonis, Chairman of Camping World Holdings said, ‘It has been our vision to continue the tradition of raising these flags to show our company’s support and appreciation to our country and to those that have sacrificed so much to keep our communities safe.’”
They’re planning to have representatives from the Station 19 Fire Department, the Honor Guard and ROTC students, and American Legion there at the flag raising.
A ribbon cutting will also take place on Saturday, at 2 p.m.
The neighboring Splash Aqua Park is planning a celebration in conjunction with the big flag raising. Other activities on Saturday, according to the Splash Aqua Park event information, will include a visit from local Olympic boxer Nico Hernandez, food trucks, games, face painting, splashing, and a cornhole tournament.
