Friends University choirs will perform their Christmas Candlelight Concert in person this year.
The annual performance was held online last year. Prior to that, generations of students, faculty and audiences participated in the candlelight tradition on the Friends University’s campus. In 2021, however, the production will be moved to the more spacious Central Community Church at 6100 W Maple St. in west Wichita.
This annual holiday performance of the Christmas Candlelight Concert will be held Friday, December 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday December 4 at 2 p.m.
The concert will be recorded and televised by PBS Kansas for viewing on Dec 23 at 9 p.m.; Christmas Eve at 12 p.m., 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. and Christmas day at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. (Check local listings for broadcast information.)
In addition to hearing the traditional renditions by the Friends University Singing Quakers and Concert Choir, concert goers will have the opportunity to hear from other groups including Falcon Chorus, Women’s Choir, Orchestra, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Dance and Singing Quakers Alumni Choir. Welcoming guests as they arrive will be the Friends University Flute Choir, providing festive music in the foyer.
“I wanted to create a Christmas concert that celebrated all that we have to offer in the Fine Arts Division. This concert is our big present to you, our beloved community,” said Artistic Director of Candlelight and Singing Quaker Conductor, Dr. Rayvon T. J. Moore.
