Sharing is caring!
1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a FREE reading program for preschool age and younger kids sponsored by the Wichita Public Library.
This program challenges parents to read to their kids starting at an early age with a goal -as the name suggests- of reading 1000 books before they start kindergarten.
If your kid isn’t a newborn any more, don’t worry, you can still reach your goal. If you read 3 books each night, you’ll be able to read 1000 books IN LESS THAN A YEAR!
To help get you motivated, the Wichita Public Library is offering incentive prizes for hitting different reading milestones.
Read the first 100 books and win a book bag! Go back to the Library after completing 300, 500, 700, and 1000 books to win more fun prizes. Each time you return with a complete reading sheet, your child will be given a sticker to add to the library’s progress chart.
To Get Started:
You can track your child’s progress by signing up for Beanstack, the library’s new reading program website. It just takes a few minutes to fill out some basic info about yourself and your child to get started. You can also download the Beanstack app and track your child’s progress from your phone.
If you don’t have internet access, you can also pick up a free 1000 Books folder at any one of the eight Wichita Public Library locations. Inside you will find a tracking sheet that your child will have fun coloring each time a book is read!
