Low-carb dieters look away.
Are they gone? Good. The National Festival of Bread is being held in Wichita Saturday, June 25th at the Wichita Airport Hilton on W. Kellogg. Admission is free.
According to the promoters, the festival is an amateur baking contest that highlights the art of baking bread at home. Eight finalists will compete for the national prize, preparing their entries onsite as the festival carries on around them.
But here’s what you really want to know: there will be free samples.
The festival includes “The Great American Bake Sale” in the ballroom from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The bake sale is a fundraiser from Share our Strength; proceeds will go toward helping to feed hungry kids.
Vendors at the National Festival of Bread Miniature Trade Show will offer a variety of cookware, ingredients, information, and arts and crafts. Some vendors will be giving away door prizes.
Free educational seminars begin at 9 a.m. in the Wichita Airport Hilton ballroom. The topics include bread sculpting (yes, really!), sweet bread dough basics, baking variety breads, baking with whole grains, and no-knead bread baking.
