When I think of Halloween displays in Wichita, I first think of the College Hill neighborhood. It has been a family favorite for years and is known for being one of the best neighborhoods for Halloween decor. All over the neighborhood, houses take Halloween decorating to the extreme. The community spirit is strong, with many residents participating in the fun, creating a FREE and exciting atmosphere for all ages. College Hill is a must-visit on Halloween night in Wichita.
Pro Tip: Some of the houses in College Hill wait until Halloween Eve to put out their displays, but many houses decorate all month long.
When I think of Halloween Events, I also think of Lights on David, which puts on a Halloween and a Christmas Light Show. Scroll down for a list of houses that have over-the-top Halloween Displays and put on Light Displays for FREE.
College Halloween Displays in Wichita
Surprise the kids, grab some hot chocolate, and take a stroll through the street of College Hill for a chance to see these impressive displays up-close!
Where is College Hill? It’s situated roughly between Central Avenue to the north, Douglas Avenue to the south, Hillside Street to the west, and Oliver Street to the east.
On October 31st, many streets in College Hill were blocked off, and Wichita Police Officers were there to ensure everyone remained safe.
One of our favorite houses to visit is at 401 N. Roosevelt St. We asked the homeowner why do they spend the time and money to put on this incredible display? Their response was “When you grow up in College Hill, the spirit of Halloween becomes apart of you. You can’t imagine your house without lights and decorations and 1000s of trick or treaters roaming the streets on a crisp fall night. It’s like growing up on a movie set! I decorate our house to keep the tradition of this amazing neighborhood alive. Most importantly, I do it to honor my mother who always put her magical touch on this holiday and neighborhood.” – Alexis Phillips
There is a tribute to Donna Volz & Kathy Francis who were the founders of Halloween Street! I think they would be proud that their legacy continues and the tradition of Collage Hill Halloween is enjoyed by thousands.
