Sedgwick County is bringing its Bonding thru Board Games event to the community to connect family and friends in a fun way on Friday, December 17, 2021.
The Bonding Thru Board Games with Santa & Blitzen event will be from 6:30pm to 9 p.m. at the Sedgwick County Extension Education Center, 7001 W. 21 st St. N. Wichita, KS 67205.
Bonding thru Board Games is a family program where board games are used as tools to strengthen relationships. Any family in the community can participate at no cost. Family members spend time playing games while connecting with each other and trying new games that encourage them to have their own family nights.
“Many of us are facing challenges that can be stressful, overwhelming, and cause strong emotions in adults and children,” said Liz Brunscheen-Cartagena, Family Life and Resource Management agent with K-State Research and Extension — Sedgwick County and the organizer of Bonding Thru Board Games. “The Bonding Thru Board Games event can start helping families build and enhance strong family bonds. There are many benefits to playing board games, from developing strong family traits, to improving mental health, to developing vital soft skills needed for school, work and life.”
“One issue pressing our homes and our society is the isolation,” Brunscheen-Cartagena said. “Playing board games gets everyone in the same room which helps family members across generations to connect and have a great time together. Playing board games increases a sense of belonging and purpose, boosts happiness, reduces stress and hones softs skills through simulations of life situations in a safe platform.”
Don’t forget your camera! You can take pictures with Santa and his reindeer when he isn’t playing board games with the families.

K-State Research and Extension — Sedgwick County offers Bonding Thru Board Games, a program for families to come together to play board games every other month through the year. The 2022 event dates will soon be posted at www.sedgwick.ksu.edu under Bonding Thru Board Games.
The program is a tool to help family members carve out quality time and connect with one another in ways that activities in our everyday lives sometimes inhibit, Brunscheen-Cartagena said.
