Joining Wichita’s Park and Recreation’s mascot Barry the Bison will be Sparky, a lovable and heroic Dalmatian pup who works with the Wichita Fire Department, and Sgt. Justice, a brave crime-fighting eagle who works with the Wichita Police Department, and Beeatrice, a bee who makes her hive here in Wichita and is concerned about air quality.
“The City mascots have joined forces to create a fun new kids program called the City Crew! [The mascots] are inviting kids ages 12 & under to join their crew and come to exclusive events held in each district of Wichita. Enjoy a barbecue, pool party and ice skating, to name a few. Plus, there will be other events that pop-up throughout the year as an extra bonus, such as free tickets to a local sporting event.”
About Wichita’s new City Crew kids club
The City Crew membership is FREE!
The City Crew Membership Kit will include a lanyard and and Crew Member badge that will allow members free access to official City Crew events. When members attend Lanyard Events, they can check in at the crew tent for a crew membership reward. Crew Celebrations are exclusive family events just for members.
Some events will be exclusive to crew members and others will be public. The public events will have added perks for City Crew members, like earning Barry’s Bucks. Each event that a crew member attends will earn them Barry’s Bucks, which will get members discounts off any class offered by Wichita Park & Recreation!

Upcoming kids’ City Crew events
The new City Crew will celebrate with fun and games at a variety of events throughout the year. Here’s what’s coming up:
On September 20, check in at Kennedy Plaza during Open Streets ICT along with Barry, Beeatrice, Sparky and Sgt. Justice for a day of bicycling, music, dancing, yoga and more. All-Star Members can have their photo taken professionally with the mascots and given to immediately. You can even get the mascots to sign it!
On October 3, Fall into Fun at Watson Park from 10 a.m. to noon with hay rack rides, a campfire circle, s’mores, and a relaxing train ride around the lake. Also, challenge Barry and the other mascots to a rousing game of putt-putt golf!
These events are planned far in advance, so there’s likely to be some changes and/or additions to the schedule as the year goes by. The best way to find out about Crew-exclusive events is to sign up for the City Crew!
