City Crew Kids Club in Wichita is FREE: Free Events & More

Have you heard? City Crew (formerly known as Barry’s Crew) is a completely FREE program for kids to join.

The City Crew, Barry the Bison, Beeatrice, ?Sgt. Justice, Sparky, and Webster are looking forward to seeing you at awesome events around Wichita! Crew Members get invited to community sporting events, Dave and Buster’s, pool parties, Great Plains Nature Center, Watson Park, and a lot of other cool places you may have never been before.

The mascots know how important it is for kids to have fun, so we make it easy to join – it’s FREE!

To register, you must be 2-12 years old and want to have lots of fun in our big city. We can’t wait to meet you!?

The City Crew membership is FREE!

The City Crew Membership Kit will include a lanyard and and Crew Member badge that will allow members free access to official City Crew events. 

Some events will be exclusive to crew members and others will be public. The public events will have added perks for City Crew members, like earning Barry’s Bucks. Each event that a crew member attends will earn them Barry’s Bucks, which will get members discounts off any class offered by Wichita Park & Recreation!

How to Join Wichita’s City Crew Kids Club

To join the City Crew, parents can sign their kids up at the Wichita Park and Recreation website.

Crew Members can pick up their Crew Kit by scheduling your pick-up time and location by contacting Barbara McGuire at bmcguire@wichita.gov or (316) 268-4192. The Crew Kit will include an official Crew Member badge and lanyard, a special events calendar, and more.

Upcoming kids’ City Crew events 2023

September 9, 2023 – Color Run & Back to School Bash

Edgemoor Rec. Center (5815 E. 9th St.)

Grab a white shirt out of your closet and lace up those sneakers! This 1-mile outdoor Color Run is where living a healthy lifestyle meets with an explosion of color as runners are doused from head to toe in a different colored powder at various checkpoints along the way. 

The event will begin with a group-led warmup at 9:35am to build the excitement and the race will begin at 9:45am. It doesn’t matter how long it takes you to finish because it’s all about the color!  Everyone’s a winner and runners will receive a participation medal. Crew Members will receive a pair of sunglasses at check-in for extra eye protection, but don’t worry as the color is non-toxic! After the race is over, enjoy a group cool down activity at 10:15am.

During the entire event there will be a party with festive music, a fun Zumba workout, and inflatables such as an 18 ft. Soccer Dart, Viking Axe Throw, Wacky Backyard Obstacle Course and Wacky 4-Man Equalizer. Then, test your skills with a variety of tabletop carnival games like Quack Attack, Potty Toss and Ring Toss.  Jam to the music while sipping on snow cones, eating popcorn, and getting your face painted. 

Before you leave, make sure to stop by the school supply table to collect some items that will help you start the school year off right (while supplies last).?

Sunday, October 22 -Owl-O-Ween

Central Riverside Park (720 N. Nims)

Who wants to see and learn about some cool animals?  The Kansas Wildlife Exhibit is an amazing opportunity to view up close non-releasable and often permanently injured wildlife ambassadors such as a bobcat, beaver, golden eagle, turkey vulture, hawks, quail, turtles and more. Odin, the one-eyed Eastern Screech Owl will be an Owl-O-Ween ambassador and will be brought out for short periods throughout the event. In addition to the exhibits, Crew Members are in for a special treat with a scavenger hunt that will take you to a variety of stations to learn about owls, snakes, turtles, bats, spiders, insects and more! Don’t forget to pick up a cool animal mask and grab some popcorn along the way. Receive a prize after completing the scavenger hunt and then wander over to the inflatable bounce house to work off some energy.

Saturday, November 18 – Minute to Win It – Thanksgiving Edition

1-3 pm
It’s Turkey time! Thanksgiving is the perfect holiday to get the family together to spend quality time, so come enjoy a little friendly competition among family members…Thanksgiving style! Minute to Win it games are quick and exciting, plus they are perfect for all ages because they are simple to play and typically hilarious. Crew members can choose to play while being timed, play against another player or just play for fun. There won’t be any fowl play with Turkey Bowling, Stuff the Turkey or Shake your Tailfeather games and Crew Members will be in full feast mode with the Traffic Yam and Please Pass the Corn games.  In addition to the quick challenges, it will be as easy as pie to win some fun prizes while playing Thanksgiving Bingo. Come play and gobble till you wobble!?

Saturday, December 16 -Breakfast with the Grinch

Evergreen Rec. Center (2700 N. Woodland)
Let’s be merry in the grinchiest of ways at this special holiday whobilation with the one and only Mr. Grinch!   The Grinch will be cracking jokes and posing for photos while Crew Members eat a special breakfast in his honor. You’ll feast, feast, feast on Green Grinch Pancakes, Cindy Lou Who’s Who Hash, Grinch Kabobs and Grinch juice.  Breakfast ends at 10:45am when the reading of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” begins.  Stick around to make a Grinch ornament that will add some Whoville flair to your tree and don’t forget to stop by the photo booth for some Grinch inspired selfies, which will be both joyful and triumphant!?
