Have you heard? City Crew (formerly known as Barry’s Crew) is a completely FREE program for kids to join. What is City Crew in Wichita? It’s a program for kids to connect with their community and learn more about city services. Managed by the City of Wichita, this program offers free activities, events, behind-the-scenes tours, and opportunities to meet city workers, including firefighters, police officers, and more. Each event has a different theme and location, so you can go to cool places you may never have been to before.
City Crew is a great way for families to engage with Wichita while keeping kids entertained on a budget because it’s FREE!!

The City Crew, Barry the Bison, Beatrice, Sgt. Justice, Sparky, and Webster are looking forward to seeing you at awesome events around Wichita! Crew Members get invited to community sporting events, Dave and Buster’s, pool parties, Great Plains Nature Center, Watson Park, and a lot of other cool places you may have never been before. The mascots know how important it is for kids to have fun, so they make it easy to join – it’s FREE!
About Wichita’s City Crew Kids Club
The City Crew Membership is FREE!
- The City Crew Membership Kit will include a lanyard and a Crew Member badge that will allow members free access to official City Crew events.
- Pro Tip: All current crew members must re-register for the new year. If you already have a badge, keep it; they will update it with a new sticker.
- To register, you must be 2-12 years old and want to have lots of fun in our big city.
- Some events will be exclusive to crew members, and others will be public. Public events will offer additional perks for City Crew members, including earning Barry’s Bucks.
- If you are a City Crew member and you attend an event, you can earn Barry’s Bucks! Enter bucks into the drawing wheel for a chance to win cool prizes, awarded monthly.
How to Join City Crew in Wichita
To join the City Crew, parents can sign their kids up at the Wichita Park and Recreation website. You have to re-register each year, so make sure to do so.
Crew Members can pick up their Crew Kit by scheduling a pickup time and location with Barbara McGuire at bmcguire@wichita.gov or (316) 268-4192. The Crew Kit will include an official Crew Member badge and lanyard, a special events calendar, and more.

Upcoming Kids’ City Crew Events
Saturday, May 30th: Video Game Adventrue Day
10 – Noon at Orchard Recreation Center
City Crew kids will step into the world of their favorite video games—without ever touching a controller! Get ready to power up, jump, run, and compete in a day packed with video game–inspired quests! Young gamers will tackle exciting challenges inspired by classic and modern games, from the Super Mario Power Up Challenge and Fortnite Dance Off to the Pokémon Trainer Challenge and the twisty Pac-Man Maze Run. City Crew Members can test their aim with Angry Birds Knockdown, hunt for treasures in the Zelda Rupee Hunt, toss rings like Sonic, and stack to the sky with Tetris Towers.
Every Crew Member receives a Gamer Passport to collect stamps at each station, unlocking a Game Master Award once they’ve conquered all the challenges. It’s a day packed with action, creativity, and friendly competition—perfect for budding gamers and adventure seekers alike!
July 11: Fishing Fun Fest
10 am – Noon at OJ Watson Park
Grab a rod and reel! City Crew members will cast their way into outdoor fun at the Fishing Fun Fest where young anglers get to dive into the world of fishing and water adventures! Crew members will sharpen their skills at a fishing clinic, practice precision with casting games, and test their speed in reeling races. Adventurers can explore the water in kayaks and pedal boats, all while learning essential tips like tying fishing knots.
Back on shore, City Crew kids can get creative with a fish ID matching game, make a colorful fish windsock, and decorate their own fishing visor. They can also try their luck at our fishing booth and capture memories at a fun selfie background perfect for sharing with family and friends. From water play to hands-on learning, this event is packed with fishing fun for City Crew members ages 6-12 as they reel in the adventure!
September 19: Hometown Heroes: Wheels at Work
11 am – 1 pm at Carl G. Brewer Community Center
Start your engines and steer your way into a celebration of mighty machines and the everyday heroes who keep our community moving! At the Big Rig Roundup, City Crew kids can get hands-on with real trucks and equipment, then test their strength in the Tow Truck Tug. Budding racers can hit the track at the Road Rally Obstacle Course, navigating scooters and tricycles through twists, turns, and tricky challenges.
Future builders can bring their visions to life in the City Planners Lab, designing and constructing imaginative structures. Over at the Little Explorer’s Work Zone, Crew members can touch and explore real job-site materials. And don’t forget to let safety take the wheel at Safety City Headquarters, where kids can pick up important safety tips.
Shifting gears, design apprentices can craft their own safety cone construction hat, design a custom license plate, and get messy creating bold tracks and winding trails by rolling toy trucks through paint. After all that action, Crew members can fuel up at the Pit Stop Grill with grilled burgers and hot dogs, snow cones, and lemonade. From big rigs to mini movers, this City Crew event gives kids a behind-the-scenes look at the vehicles and heroes that keep our hometown on track!

Barry’s Bucks with City Crew
One of the many perks of being part of the City Crew is getting rewarded just for showing up and having fun! Whenever you attend a City Crew event, you’ll earn Barry’s Bucks—named after the program’s friendly mascot, Barry the Bison. These special bucks can be collected at events and then entered to win incredible prizes!
