Friends University offers a free series of movement classes for adults and children in Studio E16 of the Riney Fine Arts building.
Free Class for Adults
Adult movement classes are offered on Tuesdays from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. The class focuses on exploring major concepts of movement such as breath support, connectivity, and movement dynamic, inviting each person’s abilities. During the class, you will be guided through different movement experiences to promote a pliable body and a focused mind.
Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move; class is done in socks or bare feet.
Free Class for Children
Children’s movement class is for 6-10 year-olds and is offered on Mondays from 6-7 p.m. This class will focus on exploring movement from different artistic disciplines. For example: children would observe abstract or concrete paintings (age appropriate) in order to explore the concept of concrete versus abstract movement. Concepts like phrasing and rhythm will be explored musically and with movement. This class welcomes all abilities, no previous dance training is necessary.
Kids should wear comfortable clothes that allow him or her to move freely; class is done in socks or bare feet.
Both of these movement classes are FREE. If you want to donate at the end of the semester, your donation will support dance majors needs, like funds to travel for conferences.
It isn’t mandatory to attend movement class regularly, but it is recommended so that you can stay in practice.
