The Kansas State Treasurer’s Office currently returns between $14 million and $16 million in other unclaimed property each year. Yes, that’s just in Kansas, and some of it may be yours. Here’s how to find unclaimed funds in the State of Kansas. This process is totally FREE – make sure you are going to the correct link to find the information. The link is below.

Unclaimed Cash in Kansas

  • Unclaimed funds are assets for which the rightful owner cannot be located.
  • Typically, unclaimed funds and property are transferred to the state where the assets are located after a dormancy period has elapsed.
  • When claiming unclaimed funds that have risen in value, taxes may be assessed at the time as ordinary income.
  • States have established processes whereby legal owners of assets can reclaim unclaimed funds.

Let’s face it, life is expensive, and wouldn’t it be a fun surprise to find out that there is unclaimed money or property just waiting for you to claim?

Here is the direct link to Kansas Unclaimed Property

If you want to start from the beginning, go to the Kansas State Treasurer’s website and click on the “Search Now” link.

After you have entered your name and read the disclaimer, a list of names will appear. (Or it will show that nothing was found. Bummer!) If any of the claims match your address and description, you can add up to 30 properties into a virtual shopping cart.

At checkout, you will be asked to provide a little more information, such as your driver’s license number and email address. Depending on the type of claim, you may be able to fill out a paperless form or choose to have the state of Kansas mail paper forms to your address to fill out and return.

If you want more personal service or have questions the website cannot answer, you can also call the Kansas State Treasury Department at 785-296-4165.

In addition, if you have checked this website before, it never hurts to check it again. I personally have never had my name on the list until this year. What a fun surprise!
