Is there anything better than saving money on a great book? How about saving lots of money on lots of books at the Used Book Bag Sale at the Wichita Public Library? There will be plenty of gently used (some look practically new!) books in just about every genre for readers of any age.
The Friends of the Library takes pride in the high-quality books they offer. There will be fiction, non-fiction, and children’s books available. You’ll find DIY books, history, religion, health, self-help, fiction, romance, business, biographies, crafts, art, music, coffee table books, and more.

The Friends of the Wichita Public Library (FWPL) organization has announced that the next sale of donated books will be held on Saturday, July 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Advanced Learning Library (711 W. 2nd Street). The event is open to the public, and customers may either purchase an FWPL cloth tote bag and fill it for $10 or bring a previously purchased FWPL bag (red, green, blue, or purple with FWPL logo) and fill it for $5. Library-themed 150th anniversary merchandise will also be sold.
Paid members of FWPL may attend a special member-only preview book sale on Friday, July 10, at the Advanced Learning Library from 5 to 6:30 p.m. FWPL memberships range from $15 to $150 and can be purchased at the preview event. A membership application is also available online at wichitalibraryfriends.org/shop. Proceeds from the book sale will benefit the Wichita Public Library by helping to fund literacy initiatives, branch programs, and author events.
Book donations:
Gifts of books and other materials (music CDs, magazines, movie DVDs, audiobook CDs, and sheet music) that are in good condition are accepted year-round at any Library location during open hours. Year-round book sales:
Donated books, music CDs, magazines, movie DVDs, audiobooks, and sheet music are sold year-round to the public at the Friends Used Bookstore, located on the first floor of the Advanced Learning Library (711 West 2nd St. N.). The bookstore operates Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call 316-261-8500 for more information.

Is the sell still open?
Will the magazines be on sale also? If so is it still $5 a bag?
We will not have magazines at the Friends of the Wichita Public Library Used Book Sale. But you can find magazines in the Friends Used Bookstore daily for $.25
Hello, i want to know if they have on sale any books in Spanish?
Hi Netty. That’s a good question, and one I don’t know the answer to. You may want to ask them on their Facebook event page.
Sometimes we have Spanish books, but not very often. The best place to find Spanish books is at the Friends Used Bookstore at the Advanced Learning Library. Most of the books are $2.00 or less.
(I think I already know the answer to this but I’ll ask anyway lol)
Will they be providing the bags or is it a bring your own bag type of deal? If bags are provided, what kind of bags are they? If we bring our own, what is/isnt allowed?
It’s a bring your own bag deal. They will have some bags for those who don’t have them. I don’t know whether they have specified the type or size bag you need to bring, but I imagine a paper grocery sack is a reasonable size to bring.
Bags are provided for the Friends of the Wichita Public Library Used Book Sales that are $5/bag. Plastic shopping bags (like Dillon’s or Walmart bags) are free and provided. If you want a tote bag, you must bring your Friends Blue or Green Tote Bag or you can purchase them at the sale. Totes are now $2.00 and you fill it for $5.00.
Thanks for updating me on this, Melissa! I will correct the info in the article.
What kind of bag should I bring?
I think a plastic grocery bag or paper grocery sack is probably within reason.
They didn’t specify on the size of the bag.
Trash bag?
Duffel bag?
🙂
🙂 I’m sure you’ll be considerate! (A paper grocery sack is probably a reasonable size, LOL.)
So even if I’m not a member of the WPL, (I live out of town but work in Wichita) I can still come in and check out the sale?
Yes! It’s a sale. You don’t have to have a library card or be a WPL member (except on Wednesday night).
How much is a membership to Friends of the WPL?
Don’t quote me on this, Marcia, but it may be $10 or $15. (That was the price a few years ago.) The membership funds support the library.
How late with the sale be going? It says it starts at 1030 but no closing time…
Hi, Anna. That’s a good question. I will ask them!
Here’s the answer!
