I love this “advertisement” for Walk at Work Day from Sedgwick County, complete with “fine print” about the side effects:
This just in: exercise gives you energy! So, if you have that 2:30 feeling, don’t reach for a soda or energy drink. Instead, grab your walking shoes and get moving. You’ll get hours of energy now, and no crash later!
· Sugar and caffeine free!
· Burns calories with every dose!*
· Now available with endorphins!
· It’s free!*Results may vary and side effects may include loose-fitting clothing and a reduced risk of stroke, heart attack, diabetes and depression.
Wednesday, May 16, 2012 is Walk at Work Day. The idea is to find time during the work day, at lunch or while on breaks, to take a walk for exercise and to increase energy and get the other “side effects” walking can provide.
Last year, 96 worksites participated in Walk at Work Day. Participants can register and record their walks at www.sedgwickcounty.org between May 14 and 18. Each person who registers and records a walk will help the Sedgwick County Health Department measure total countywide participation and have his/her name entered in a drawing for prizes.
For more information, call Jalaa Miller with the Sedgwick County Health Department at 660-7387.
