As a kid I remember watching big flocks of birds flying in swirling formations as I headed home on the bus.
I later found out that those were Purple Martins. For me, these birds and their synchronized dancing seemed to signal the beginning of fall.
This Wednesday, August 26, enjoy a walk and a viewing of purple martins roosting at dusk.
This walk, hosted by Bike Walk Wichita, will start at Harrison Park on south Webb Road and last about an hour. The group will meet in the parking lot of Harrison Park.
The walk and fly event will last from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
After the walk, the group will caravan over to Greenwich Rd to watch the Purple Martins take flight.
