The Whopper Detour: Get a Whopper for 1 cent at McDonald’s (yes, McDonald’s)

If the title of this deal has you confused, you’re not alone. It took me a minute to wrap my head around it too. But here’s the deal:

McDonald’s doesn’t sell Whoppers. Burger King does.

But Burger King will sell you a Whopper for one penny if you download the deal while you’re at a McDonald’s.

Or more specifically, within 600 feet of one.

First, you need to download the new BK mobile app. Then, through December 12, place an order for the discounted Whopper from a McDonald’s store location.

The Whopper Detour promo works by geofencing McDonald’s locations, meaning if you’re inside a geofenced area, the new BK app will unlock the Whopper-for-a-penny deal. Then, once the Whopper is ordered, you will be “detoured” away from McDonald’s, as the app navigates you to the nearest participating Burger King for pick-up.

There’s a limit of one one-cent Whopper per customer for this crazy deal.

I wonder how McDonald’s will respond?
