Summer Concert at Chapel Hill UMC: Deloris & the Pickin’-Fretter

Deloris & the Pickin'-Fretter concert

Chapel Hill United Methodist Church will host a free summer concert of alternative folk rock on Saturday, June 9, 2018.

This will be an evening of family friendly music with Deloris and the Pickin’-Fretter, aka Jenny Stover-Brown and Jeffrey Faus, a multi-instrumental duo trading licks on mandolin, guitar and accordian.

Admission is free but donations will be gratefully accepted.

The concert is part of Music Sessions at Chapel Hill, which is a free concert series of live, acoustic performances by local musicians.

Here’s more about the band:

Jenny Stover-Brown and Jeffrey Faus joined up musically in 2001 for some informal pickin’ and grinnin’ with friends. Jenny had been a piano player and singer since childhood. Jeffrey had also sung since childhood and taught himself guitar in high school. Both had performed in college and community choral groups. On a whim, Jenny bought her accordion at a garage sale in Minnesota for $50 and named it “Delores.” Soon afterward, Jeffrey suggested that they could play in public at a coffee shop, to which Jenny responded, “Are you serious?”

After their first performance, Jenny quickly became their main booking agent for new gigs — and “Delores and the Pickin’-Fretter” was born. One of their early gigs was opening for well-known bluegrass artist Robin Macy, a founding member of The Dixie Chicks. These days, they can be heard around the Wichita area at The Artichoke Sandwich Bar, Wild at Heart Clothing Boutique, Tanya’s Soup Kitchen and other venues including many private, house concerts around the area. Jenny and Jeffrey describe the genre of music they play as “stuff we like.” It includes a wide range of musical styles from gospels and folk to jazz standards and rock.

Chapel Hill UMC is at 1550 N. Chapel Hill Drive in Wichita, which is off 13th Street across from Warren Theater East and K-96.

The concert begins at 7 p.m.
