Summer Camp Scholarships Available from Wichita Parks Foundation

Sharing is caring!

Local youth can win scholarships to attend the annual Summer of Discovery (SOD) Camp offered at Edgemoor, Linwood, and Orchard Recreation Centers. The Wichita Parks Foundation’s Board of Directors are providing the scholarships to children age six to 13.

“One of our goals as a foundation is to improve access to park and recreation programs, particularly those offered in the summer months when kids are out of school”, said Brent Thomas, President of Wichita Parks Foundation.  “Thanks to the hard work of our board, and the generosity of the community, this year’s scholarship program will be a big step forward.”

Scholarships will be awarded only to youth based on family income guidelines during the ongoing application process. Applicants will be notified of award by mid-April.  Attendees must be registered to attend SOD at Edgemoor Recreation Center and be in good standing. Preference will be given to children attending all 10 weeks of the program. The scholarship will pay program fees at the following rates:

  • Up to 50% of program fees for 1st Child
  • Up to 75% of program fees for 2nd Child
  • 100% of program fees for 3rd+ Child(ren)

Family is defined as immediate family members residing at the same address or people who are legal dependents of the applicant including foster care youth. Scholarship money will be paid directly to Park & Recreation on behalf of attendees. For more information email, info@wichitaparksfoundation.org. Wichita Park & Recreation supports eight recreation centers, nine swimming pools, 52 athletic fields, five golf courses, six interactive fountains, numerous adult and youth-based activities and athletics programs and 2,407 acres of rights-of-way.
