The Smoke Eaters Benefit Softball Tournament is a family-friendly community event put on by the Sedgwick County Fire Department, Sedgwick County EMS, and Via Christi.

The tournament ran for years in the 90s and early 00s and raised over half a million dollars for the Via Christi Burn Center. After an eight-year hiatus, a date has been announced for the tournament this year.

Teams can register at smokeeaterssoftball.com. Businesses and organizations can also sign up there to sponsor the tournament.

Admission for spectators is free, and they’ll have a DJ with music and entertainment, a raffle/auction, and free activities and door prizes for the kids. Also scheduled during the tournament will be an Eagle Med helicopter landing and ceremony with a burn patient survivor.

The only cost is for a plate of food at the cookout. $10 will get you a hamburger or hot dog, chips, and a drink. Donations will also be accepted throughout the event, and all proceeds will go to the burn center.
