The Share Our Culture series at the Mid-America All-Indian Center is a series of free, informative lectures that celebrate Native American culture. These events are free and open to the public.
The next three Share Our Culture lectures continue a series on powwows and the associated traditions. These presentations will increase visitors’ understanding and enjoyment of future powwows.
May 9 – Women’s Regalia
Learn about the ceremonial clothing worn by female dancers and what their different dance styles represent.
May 23 – Shawls
Watch the film, “How to Make a Native American Dance Shawl,” see examples of handmade shawls, and talk to the local American Indian artists who made them.
June 13 – Powwow Dances
Gain a deeper understanding of powwow dance performance and history from “one of the most respected elders” in the local American Indian community.
