Wichita Art Museum will host a very festive exhibit opening for Swedish artist Bror Julius Olsson Nordfeldt this Saturday. Välkommen Nordfeldt! will include a day full of activities and educational experiences centering around the artists and the places he lived and worked – including Wichita.
Admission to the Wichita Art Museum is FREE on Saturdays, so this fun event for art-lovers of all ages is also free. Bring some lunch money and a little for shopping.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the atmosphere outside the museum will be like a Swedish festival. They’ll have performances by Lindsborg Swedish Folk Dancers and Fiddlers, a Swedish pastry tent, a food truck and a coffee truck!
The Muse Cafe will be open for lunch/brunch from 11 to 2 and then for desserts from 2 to 3 p.m. Reservations for the cafe, which is located inside the museum, are a good idea.
Family ArtVenture is also happening during this event with A Nod to Nordfeldt artmaking activities for the whole family. These will be held in the Living Room and the Art Studio inside the museum.
At 1 p.m. attend the curator talk and at 2 p.m. the history talk, both inside the Robert M. Beren Room. Since capacity is limited to 65 people for each of these talks and seating will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, you will be able to catch the talks later on the Wichita Art Museum’s YouTube channel.
The Museum Store will be open for shopping and they’ll have a mini used book sale during the event as well.
Välkommen Nordfeldt! will be a fun celebration of Scandinavian art and influence here in the Great Plains. Visit the WAM website for complete details about the event.
