On Saturday, February 20, Wichita kids can try hockey for free at the Wichita Ice Center.
Ice rinks across the country are participating. More than 400 local hockey programs and USA Hockey invite kids to try youth hockey for free as part of Hockey Weekend Across America.
The ice center will provide the hockey gear; they have a limited amount of equipment, so registration in advance is required.
Their event is for kids ages 4-9 years old with no previous skating or hockey experience. The Ice Center coaches will assist your child in learning the basics.
All equipment will be available to borrow, but there are limited supplies of equipment, so you do need to register.
Make sure your child is wearing sweat pants and long socks, and bring his or her bicycle helmet.
The session that day begins at 2 p.m. and goes until 3:30 p.m.
To register, go to tryhockeyforfree.com and follow these steps:
- Enter your zip code
- select the Wichita Ice Center
- click Event Details

- click Sign Up
The Wichita Ice Center is at 505 W Maple St., Wichita, KS 67213. To find out which other rinks are participating, and to register your child, click here.
